Smile Train and the College of Surgeons of East , Central and Southern Africa
(COSECSA), are collaborating on a 5-year programme (with a possibility of renewal) to
provide Smile Train scholarships to trainees wishing to study plastic surgery within the
COSECSA training programme. A maximum of 4 scholarships will be provided per year,
total of 20 in the 5 years.
- Objective: To increase surgical capacity for cleft Lip and palate surgery
- Application Deadline: 15th January 2021
- Award winners will be notified within a month.
Program starts January 2021.
The scholarship covers three years of FCS plastic surgery, starting from 1st year of the FCS program.
The scholarship is only for FCS plastic surgery level not MCS level.
The applicant must have completed the COSECSA MCS program or an equivalent qualification from a
recognized institution or have obtained a COSECSA FCS specialty qualification.
The applicant must have applied and been accepted in a hospital accredited for training in plastic
surgery by COSECSA. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure a training post is available,
and a work permit can be obtained from the host country before applying where required.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants should include a personal statement indicating future goals, a current CV and a letter of
support from the surgical training program director of the hospital offering the training.
