It is apparent to see that there are problems that need to be addressed in the field of surgery in Ethiopia. There is a gap in the services rendered by surgeons. We, as Ethiopian citizens, have a lot to do to catch-up with other countries that are leading the way in the field of surgery through the quality of service they render. That is exactly why we were established.
Our Experience
What we do
The Surgical Society of Ethiopia was established in 1995 with twelve members. Currently, there are more than 1000 registered members who are licensed surgeons practicing in Ethiopia, in different parts and vicinity of the country. We are also a founding member and a bigger contributor to the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and South Africa (COSECSA) and undertake related activities with this Regional Association. Works are held here with many partner stakeholders including FMOH, Addis Ababa Administration Health Bureau, pharmaceutical companies, and health-related NGO groups. We also have nine regional offices.

It is one of the oldest professional associations established 28 years ago in 1995 by dedicated surgeons from Ethiopia with the vision of improving the surgical service in the country.
Our Plan
We are planning to extend to fifteen institutions as deemed necessary. As we are the firsthand providers of the service and producers of the necessary surgical workforce in the country, we can introduce our vision and mission in all the health institutions and other related institutions. We strive to deliver safe, affordable, and accessible surgical care to Ethiopians.

We are a nonprofit organization that uses all the incomes through different groups to deliver surgical service to the people of Ethiopia, providing them with safe and state of the art surgical services. We don’t have any purpose or agenda rather than moving the surgical filed of Ethiopia forward into the new age.
